I heard about Home Instead about three years ago from Kiara. I have watched what they do for their clients and the community. They truly care about everyone, they remind me of a school teacher, my children had, if they came with a question, she gave her full attention to them. Andrea and her staff are the same way when Kiara goes out to see the people she wants to contact each one personally she does a great job.

Ginny is heaven sent! She is so great in caring for my Mom. They have wonderful conversations and enjoy religious programs. Mom requires 24x7 care, and Ginny gives me a break to run errands and relax. Both of our lives are enhanced because Ginny is there to care for Mom.

Her professional experience includes owning and operating a bar, where she learned the importance of effective communication, staying calm under pressure, and making people feel welcome and valued. These experiences, combined with her natural patience and compassion, have helped shape the caregiver she is today. They have given Chenoa strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to build trust quickly—all qualities that are essential to providing meaningful, quality in-home care.In her six months with Home Instead, Chenoa has developed relationships with clients rooted in trust, compassion, and shared moments of joy.Finding Meaning in ConnectionFor Chenoa, the greatest reward of caregiving comes from the connections she builds.
“What I love most about caring for older adults is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their daily lives. I enjoy building trust, listening to their stories, and helping them maintain comfort, dignity, and independence. Every person I care for has a unique history and perspective, and being able to support them with patience, respect, and compassion is truly rewarding. Knowing that my presence can bring comfort, safety, and companionship is what makes this work so fulfilling for me.”
Through these meaningful interactions, Chenoa has also gained valuable life lessons. One lesson, in particular, has stayed with her:
“A lesson that has really stayed with me is how much it means to clients when you are truly present with them. Even small moments of attention, listening, and genuine connection can make a big difference in their day. Being present shows them that they matter, and it reminds me that sometimes the simplest things—like sitting with someone, listening to their stories, or just being there—can have the biggest impact.”
A Gift for CompanionshipChenoa’s daily goal is simple: to make sure every client feels safe, comfortable, respected, and cared for.She feels especially skilled in providing companionship care and creating a warm, supportive environment where clients feel comfortable, engaged, and valued. Whether she is talking with a client, sharing an activity, offering emotional support, or simply providing a steady and reassuring presence, Chenoa takes pride in helping people feel less isolated and more connected.Building genuine relationships comes naturally to her, and companionship is an area where she feels she can make a particularly meaningful difference.
“My favorite part of a typical day at Home Instead is interacting with clients and getting to know each of them on a personal level. I enjoy learning their routines, preferences, and personalities so I can support them in the way that works best for them. Building those connections and figuring out how to make their day a little easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable is what I find most rewarding.”
Caring That Goes Beyond the VisitChenoa is also proud of the dedication and compassion she sees within the Home Instead Norfolk team. She appreciates the team's ability to provide personalized support for people with a wide range of needs.
“I believe our Home Instead office stands out because we offer a wide range of in-home services that allow us to support people from many different walks of life. Whether someone needs companionship, personal care, mobility support, or help with daily routines, we're able to meet them where they are. Our team is flexible, compassionate, and committed to providing care that truly fits each individual's needs, which makes a big difference for the families we serve.”
For Chenoa, one of the things that makes the local team special is the way they make an effort to ensure every client feels seen, heard, and valued.
“One thing I'm really proud of is how well our local team makes sure every client feels seen, heard, and valued. They take the time to listen and understand each person's needs, which helps clients feel truly supported. I'm also proud of the way our team goes above and beyond during the holidays—like giving gifts at Christmas to older adults who may not have family around. Those small acts of kindness make a big difference, and it shows how deeply our team cares about the people we serve.”
In every way, Chenoa reflects the heart of caregiving: consistency, connection, compassion, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing you've helped make someone's day a little better. For Chenoa, caregiving isn't simply about providing assistance. It's about being present, building trust, listening, and reminding each person that they matter.

Helpful FAQs

Changes in everyday routines are often the first sign. You might notice missed meals, difficulty bathing or dressing, trouble getting to appointments, more time spent alone, or a family caregiver trying to manage more than they realistically can.

In rural Norfolk and Columbus, distance can make those challenges harder. Transportation, healthcare, and in-home services may not be as close as they are in a larger city. Home Instead has served Norfolk and Columbus since 1996, including rural communities, so care can be built around both the person’s needs and where they live.

Our What’s Next Toolkit can help your family start the conversation before a crisis.

Our approximately 75 Care Pros allow us to serve clients throughout Norfolk and Columbus, including rural communities where access to transportation, healthcare, and home care can be challenging.

That local reality matters when building a care plan. A family may need more than help around the house—they may also be trying to coordinate a long drive to a medical appointment, arrange transportation to therapy, or manage care when adult children live elsewhere.

Home Instead has served the region since 1996 and has developed relationships with local healthcare providers throughout that time.

We’ve served Norfolk and Columbus since 1996 and have an approximately 75-person Care Pro team capable of reaching rural communities as well as larger population centers.

Our leadership team brings more than 50 years of combined healthcare and senior care experience. That includes a Registered Nurse who began her Home Instead career as a caregiver while attending college.

The office also has experience with Nebraska Medicaid Waiver funding, long-term care insurance, VA benefits, dementia support, hospital-to-home care, 24-hour care, and end-of-life support. In 2025, local Care Pro Darla Amlong was selected as one of 10 Care Pros of the Year representing the Home Instead network.

Care can sometimes begin within 24 hours. That includes situations where a family needs to assemble a team for 24-hour care.

Timing depends on the older adult’s needs, where they live, the schedule required, and appropriate Care Pro availability. Rural geography can also affect staffing, so a 24-hour start should not be treated as a guarantee.

When care is urgent, our local team first works to understand exactly what is needed and then determines how quickly an appropriate care plan and Care Pro team can be put in place.

It starts by learning what the older adult needs help with, what they still want to do independently, and what routines matter to them. From there, we create a customized care plan and match Care Pros to the needs and schedule.

Care might mean personal care and meals in Norfolk, transportation to an appointment from a rural community, familiar one-on-one support for someone living with dementia, or 24-hour assistance following an injury or procedure.

The plan isn’t static. As the person recovers or their needs change, the schedule and type of support can change too.

Expect someone who pays attention to the person behind the care plan. Personal care, for example, isn’t only about completing bathing or grooming tasks. It can mean understanding how an older adult prefers to start the day and preserving the small routines that help them feel like themselves.

Our local team has used approaches such as turning bathing into a more relaxing “spa day” experience for someone reluctant to bathe. For another client, dignity may include helping with favorite jewelry, makeup, or bright red lipstick.

Those details matter because good home care should fit the person—not make the person fit the care.

No. Care can begin before someone needs around-the-clock assistance. A Care Pro might provide companionship, meals, transportation, personal care, respite for a family caregiver, or help with everyday routines.

Starting earlier can also give the older adult time to become comfortable with receiving help and develop a relationship with their Care Pro.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Norfolk and Columbus team can also support more extensive needs, including dementia, hospital-to-home transitions, 24-hour care, and non-medical end-of-life support.

Cost depends on how much care is needed, how often Care Pros visit, and the type of assistance included in the customized care plan. A few scheduled visits each week will have a different cost from overnight or continuous 24-hour support.

Our team discusses the schedule and care needs with families so they understand the expected cost before care begins.

Home Instead’s Cost of Care resource can also help you understand the factors that influence home care costs.

Options depend on the individual. Our Norfolk and Columbus office has a contract with Nebraska’s Medicaid Waiver program, works with long-term care insurance, and is a trusted and credentialed VA provider. The team can also help families navigate VA benefits.

Eligibility, covered services, and authorization requirements vary, so families shouldn’t assume a particular program will automatically pay for care.

During your care consultation, tell our team about any long-term care policy, Medicaid Waiver eligibility, or veteran benefits you’re considering so those options can be discussed alongside the care plan.
