Visit an Intergenerational Home

While many families pass recipes, heirlooms or stories on to their loved ones, the Gleason-Fear family's most notable legacy is one of compassionate senior care.

Mary Fear and her late husband, Bill, raised three daughters and about a half dozen foster children, and cared for her elderly mother in their home. When Bill's health began to decline and he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, family support became a mainstay.

"Our philosophy is that family takes care of family," said oldest daughter, Marion, 51. "That's just what you do and what I saw, I modeled," she said. "Bless others as much as you can," added Mary, 69. "And what goes around comes around."

So when Marion and her husband, Dale, decided to build a new home in 2005, the idea of an apartment for Bill and Mary soon became part of the plan.
