June Care Professional of the Month: Catherine S
Cat has been with Home Instead Denver since April of 2022, but she found her calling for caregiving at a very young age stating herself that her passion for helping others started when she was a teenager and met a sweet, elderly woman in her neighborhood who lived alone with her cats. Cat says she went over to visit and found that the woman was eating cat food! At that point, Cat took it upon herself to visit the woman regularly, cleaning for her and bringing her healthy meals.
Later during her high school years, she worked in a nursing home and couldn’t help but think how many of the elderly she helped each day would have likely enjoyed spending their final days in their own home environments. After high school, Cat moved in with a bed bound woman who needed 24-hour care.
Fast forward to 1995, Cat’s husband’s grandmother, in her 90’s needed 24-hour care after being diagnosed with colon cancer. She moved in with her husband’s grandparents and cared for her up until the moment she passed as she held Cat’s hand.
At some point in Cat’s young adult life, both her mother and father, due to health issues and accidents, needed Cat’s assistance with everyday tasks and activities. As years passed, she eventually provided 24-hour care to her parents until their passings just a few years ago.
Cat reflects to her “Momma” telling her that she was a natural born caregiver because she always put her heart and soul into everything she does when caring for someone. Two years ago, when contemplating the next chapter of her life, Cat, knowing that she is passionate about caring for others, and to honor her mom and dad, took the first step to becoming a Home Instead Caregiver and embarking on a career of caring and helping as many individuals as she can to live a happy, fulfilling life where they deserve to, in the comfort of their own homes! Cat is truly a remarkable person and an exceptional caregiver, and we are so fortunate to have her on our team!
